Elevess is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used for improving facial lines and wrinkles, scars, and lip augmentation. This FDA-approved dermal filler is expected to have longer lasting results because of its class leading concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid. Another unique feature about Elevess is the integration of a local anesthetic, lidocaine to minimize the discomfort of injection.
As exerience with Elevess grows within the plastic surgical community the answers to these questions will become known. The areas of the face best treated with Elevess will also be determined as experience grows.
Radiesse is an FDA-approved wrinkle treatment to correct moderate to severe lines, wrinkles and folds in the face. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Radiesse is a water-based gel which contains calcium hydroxylapitite (CaHA). Because the gel offers a 1:1 implant-to-tissue defect correction, less product is required to achieve a given result.
Dr. O'Connel believes that Radiesse is best used for filling of the nasolabial folds, acne scars, wrinkles and other soft tissue defects including those of the nose. Because of visibility and nodule formation Radiesse is not used for lip augmentation at Plastic Surgery of Southern Connecticut.
Calcium hydroxylapitite is a naturally found mineral found in bones and teeth of humans. Because Radiesse uses CaHA with a water-based gel, this formula is biocompatible, allowing the gel to be absorbed by the body. Another added benefit is that no skin testing is required before use, as Radiesse is immunologically inert.
This will depend upon the area being treated and the extent of correction desired. O'Connell will advise you on the appropriate volume necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals.
Dr. O'Connell believes that the longevity of result from Radiesse is quite variable and typically may last 9 to 18 months.
