Like Restylane and Juvederm, Hydrelle is a NASHA injectable dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid. The product is manufactured by Anika Therapeutics and distributed in the U.S. by Coapt Systems, Inc. Hydrelle contains a highly cross-linked HA gel (28 mg/ml) as well as the local anesthetic 0.3% lidocaine and sodium metabisulfite.
Hydrelle is recommended for moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds.
A European 50 patient multi-center clinical study of Hydrelle showed significant correction of nasolabial folds in the majority of patients for up to one year.
Artefill® is a permanent dermal filler made from PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres, bovine collagen and lidocaine. A skin test is required 4 weeks prior to treatment to insure that you are not allergic to the collagen in Artefill®.
Like many other fillers, Artefill® is injected below rhytids, and it is intended for localized correction. The collagen in the product is slowly absorbed by the body but the PMMA microspheres remain and are not absorbed or metabolized. As the body encapsulates the microspheres, collagen is generated resulting in a correction consisting of 80% of the patient's own collagen and 20% microspheres by volume. Two treatment sessions are often necessary.
As with all fillers, side effects may include redness, swelling, pain, lumps and injection site firmness. Keep in mind that Artefill® is a permanent filler and because of this, complications could be permanent in nature.
